Eight die as jeep plunges into Galiyat ravine

ABBOTTABAD: At least seven women and a child were killed and 13 others injured when a jeep they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a deep ravine near Mera village in Galiyat here on Tuesday.

According to Galiyat DSP Jameel Qureshi, the dead and the injured women were going in the jeep from Jegan village after attending a funeral when the incident occurred at a sharp turn near Mera village. Four women and a child died on the spot.

DSP Qureshi along with SHO Bagnother Farooq Khan reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and supervised the rescue work.

The dead and the injured were taken to the DHQ hospital, Abbottabad, where doctors referred five critically injured patients to Ayub Teaching Hospital Complex.

Those who died were identified as Ameen Bibi, 60, Asim Bibi, 23, Hameeda Bibi, 43, Shumaila Bibi, 26, Shaheen Bibi, 35, Nargas Bibi, 33 — wife of Gohar Rehman, Nargas Bibi, 32 — wife of Mohammad Khan, and a two-year-old child. The whereabouts of the driver could not be known.
