Such municipal services would also be launched in Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas and Shaheed Benazirabad at a later stage.

The decision was taken in the 13th meeting of the SSWMB held here on Tuesday with Sindh Chief Secretary Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah in the chair. Those attending the meeting included secretaries of local government and industries and planning departments, and SSWMB managing director and other members.

The SSWMB managing director (MD) informed the meeting that the Kotri Municipal Corporation had signed the resolution while such documents would also be signed in Qasimabad, Hyderabad for which the commissioner of Hyderabad had written a letter.

The chief secretary said that a 200-acre plot of land had been earmarked for a landfill site near Jamshoro along M-9 Motorway, which would be developed on modern lines. An environmental impact assessment should also be conducted for the purpose, he added.

Directing the MD to improve the SSWMB performance, the chief secretary said officers of good repute would be posted in the board. He also directed that the contract for lifting the garbage should be awarded to companies on the basis of their performance.

The meeting was informed that ‘Clean Karachi Campaign’ had been launched in the city.
