OKARA: Depalpur city police have arrested three persons, including a boy, after raiding an underage marriage venue at Cha Chadheranwala village on Sunday.

As per the first information report, Assistant Sub Inspector Saeed Ahmad heading a police team conducted a raid on the venue at Cha Chadhranwala where the marriage ceremony of a nine-year-old Allah Nawaz, and minor girl Misbah (9), both residents of thesame village, was taking place.

The police arrested the boy’s father Muhammad Yar, and girl’s father Zulifqar, along with the would-be groom Allah Nawaz.

Later a case was registered against the three suspects and the nikah khwan, who had fled the scene, under sections 420 and 498-B of the Pakistan Penal Code and the Child Marriage Restraint (CMR) Act 1929.

SELF-IMMOLATION: A young man allegedly committed suicide by setting himself ablaze at 55-D village.

Police said Muhammad Sarwar (29), of 55/D village was fed up by frequent domestic quarrels. On Saturday, after exchange of words with his family members, he doused himself with kerosene oil and set himself on fire.

He was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition from where doctors referred him to a Lahore hospital where he succumbed to his burns.

CORONA CASES: The district health authority has so far quarantined 27 people at their houses who had tested positive for the novel coronavirus across the district.

As per Deputy District Health Officer Dr Sajad Gilani, the field teams of the health authority were monitoring these patients.
