At least 17 employees of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) Jamshoro have tested positive for the coronavirus, according to lab reports.

The 17 employees reportedly include campus maintenance staff, security guards and peons. The varsity administration had closed LUMHS on Nov 10 until Dec 1 in view of rising Covid-19 cases.

LUMHS Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Bikha Ram said the university was closed and as many as 181 employees were tested as a precautionary measure because lower-scale employees were not following standard operating procedures (SOPs).

He said the university will remain closed till Dec 1 following which examinations will begin. He added that students are still staying in hostels of the varsity.
