BAJAUR: The Jamaat-i-Islami’s local leadership on Saturday claimed that thousands of people would participate in the party’s anti-government public gathering scheduled to be held here on Sunday (today).

Addressing a news conference to update the journalists about the arrangements being made for the public meeting, the JI leaders expressed the hope that the meeting would also help restore the party’s image in the Bajaur tribal district after the unfortunate incident at a function of the local bar association on Oct 3 involving the party leaders.

JI district head Sardar Khan, Sahibzada Haroon Rasheed, Qari Abdul Majeed and others addressed the presser and claimed that about 30,000 people would participate in the public meeting being held at the Bajaur Sports Complex.

They said all arrangements had been finalised to ensure maximum attendance.

The JI leaders said it would be one of the crowded public meetings in the history of Bajaur.

They said the current economic crisis, inflation, lawlessness and delay in implementation of the promises made with the people of tribal districts post-merger would be the main agenda items of the public meeting.

They said JI chief Sirajul Haq, Liquat Balooch, provincial head Mushtaq Ahmad Khan and scores of senior leaders would address the gathering.
