THIS refers to the letter ‘In life and death, a great soul’ (Oct 22). It was, indeed, a heart-warming read that provided glimpses of the personal life of Khwaja Nazimuddin, one of the founding fathers of Pakistan.

Khwaja Nazimuddin was one of the most trusted lieutenants of the Quaid-i-Azam and his loyalty to the Muslim League and the Quaid was utter and absolute, as was the case with most of his colleagues. Known for honesty, integrity and loyalty to the Quaid, his elevation to the highest office of the land was in the right spirit. The moment the Quaid breathed his last, the Governor-General’s Viking aircraft was sent to Dacca quietly to bring in Khwaja Nazimuddin, as prime minister Liaquat Ali Khan knew well that this alone would have been the choice of the Quaid if he would have nominated anybody as his successor in his lifetime.

At a time when Prime Minister Imran Khan has declared a war on corruption, I appeal to him to assign the task of having biographies written on the lives of our leaders of yore, like Khwaja Nazimuddin, who was a shining example of selfless service to the nation.

This will be one way to educate our young generation on the value of honesty and integrity, which in time will help the nation root out the menace of corruption from our society.
