LAHORE: A plea for the establishment of a joint board of all the progressive political parties in the Punjab to check the undue official interference in the coming elections has been made by Raja Ghazanfar Ali Khan, Deputy leader of the Muslim League Assembly Party in a statement to the press today [Oct 22]. Raja Ghazanfar Ali says: “… The exercise of undue influence for securing support for the Punjab Unionist Party is rapidly increasing. The Punjab Muslim League has from the very beginning launched a vigorous campaign against these most undemocratic activities of the Unionist Party and the steps taken by the League have always been supported by the Congress and other progressive groups in the Province.

There may be big differences in our respective political ideologies ... but we are all agreed on one point, that there should be no official interference in the coming elections.... We all demand free elections in the Punjab. The best way to save the elections from degenerating into a farce is to set up a Joint Board of the Representatives of the Progressive parties in the province….
