KARACHI: Mr Mustafa Ali Zaidi, an ex-CSP Officer, who had presumably killed himself, had been insisting Mrs Shahnaz Salim obtain divorce from her husband and get married to him, she told Police in her statement yesterday [Oct 14].

Shahnaz Begum, who also took an overdose of sleeping pills along with Mr Zaidi, has been discharged from the Jinnah Post-Graduate Medical Centre on the undertaking of her husband, Mr Salim Khan....

She told Police in her written statement that the deceased Mr Zaidi had met her at a party a few days ago and asked her to come and see him in his apartment on Oct 11 in the morning. Otherwise, he allegedly said, he would commit suicide. She stated that Mr Zaidi had brought a syrup for her ... which she took and lost consciousness. She did not know what happened afterwards. But, earlier, she had refused his offer for marriage. She stated that she had told Mr Zaidi that she had two children and could not marry him.

Soyem and Quran Khwani for late Mr Zaidi will be held today at 4 p.m. at Imambara Rizvia Colony. Majlis is to be addressed by Maulana Tauqir Zaidi. Majlis for ladies will be held at the residence of Syed Abid Raza....
