Neglected road

Published September 22, 2020

THE stretch of thoroughfare from the extension of the main Margalla road from F/10 Markaz to GT Road at Sangjani Toll Plaza is very busy but extremely dilapidated and in urgent need of repairs. Work to repair it started more than a year ago but was stopped for unknown reasons.

Tens of thousands of people commute daily to Islamabad from the northern and western suburbs. They have no choice except use this dilapidated stretch which is about 50 kilometres.

I am a frequent traveller from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Karachi on GT Road and I have observed that traffic from Hasnabdal to Rawat section crawls at snails pace because of this bad stretch. Moreover, heavy traffic from the Hattar industrial area and the stone crushing quarries of Taxila/Burhan add to the massive and long traffic jams. This has caused many fatal accidents between Taxila and Golra More Islamabad on this portion of GT road.

This is a request to the concerned authorities to restart the construction work of this busy artery.
