Soccer: Habib strikes match-winner

LAHORE,Sept 19: A second-half winner by Habib Baloch helped Habib Bank Limited (HBL) beat Wohaib Club, Lahore 1-0 in Pakistan Premier Soccer League 2005 at the University of the Punjab Old Campus ground on Monday.

The midfielder scored the lone goal of the match with a powerful low drive which went right past goalkeeper Bilal Rafiq in the 77th minute.

Meanwhile, a goal by Adeel Ahmed enabled Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) to end Wapda’s unbeaten run by a 1-0 win at the Model Town ground.

Wapda, despite having seasoned players like Arif Mehmood, Zulfiqar Ali Shah and Muhammad Niaz failed to beat PTCL’s goalkeeper Amir Ali.

It was a stunning defeat for Wapda as they had earlier won against KRL 3-0.

Adeel struck in the 27th minute.

At Islamabad’s Naval Complex, the all-services tie saw Navy lose to twice national champions Army 2-1 despite taking lead. Muhammad Ramzan gave lead to seamen in the 10th minute by scoring a field goal. Army retaliated through Adnan Bari equalising the score 1-1, 18 minutes later.

After half-time Imran Hussain struck the winner in the 53rd minute. Both Imran and Adnan are leading scorers of Army with four goals each.
