RAWALPINDI: Speakers paid tribute to Qari Khushi Mohammad, a recipient of the Tamgha-i-Imtiaz known for the recitation of the Quran, on his death anniversary on Monday.

An event held in this regard at the International Qirat Academy in Satellite Town was attended by students, friends and admirers of Mohammad.

Speakers said it was unfortunate that Mohammad was no longer with them, but his voice would always be a beam of light to show people the right path and his legacy was continued by his sons Qari Najam Mustafa, who received the Nishan-i-Imtiaz in 2007, and retired Capt Mohammad Mehmood who received it in 2015.

They said Mohammad’s death was the end of an era, but his services towards Islam were remarkable.

From a family of Kharal Rakpoots, Mohammad completed a three year source of recitation and rules from Jamia Qasmia in Karachi.

He was appointed the imam of the Presidency and was the first qari of the Senate under Gen Ayub Khan.
