KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan announced on Wednesday that its parliamentarians would organise a protest demonstration against K-Electric in Islamabad on July 14.

A decision to this effect was taken by the coordination committee of the MQM-P, which met at the party’s temporary headquarters. The meeting was chaired by senior leader Amir Khan.

According to an MQM statement, the committee was of the view that the complaints with regard to unannounced loadshedding, prolonged power cuts and overbilling had been rising in the metropolis and it was useless to give more time to the KE to improve its performance as it would be an injustice with the people of Karachi.

The meeting decided with consensus that lawmakers belonging to the MQM-P would hold a protest demonstration in front of parliament house in Islamabad on July 14 against the “incompetence, corruption and mismanagement” of KE.

The party warned that it would expand its protest and involve masses if the KE failed to overcome the power crisis in the metropolis.

Senior leader Kanwar Naveed Jameel and other leaders were also present.

Only on Tuesday, the MQM-P had held a press conference and, without giving any date, threatened to stage a protest demonstration in Islamabad if the KE did not stop unannounced loadshedding in the city.

The party had said that it was the incompetence of the KE that it failed to improve its generation as well as transmission and distribution capacity despite getting all resources.
