QUETTA: Mr Justice Abdus Sattar, Chief Election Commissioner and Chairman of the Delimitation Commission, said that election laws, currently under examination of the Central Law Ministry, would be promulgated by the middle of this month. Suggestions in this regard, he added, had already been sent to the Government by the Election Commission.

Mr Justice Abdus Sattar, who was talking to newsmen in Quetta this morning [June 2], said that laws to be promulgated would almost be in line with previous election laws with “alterations here and there”.

Replying to a question, he said that no decision had so far been taken with regard to the suggestion made by certain political parties that the coming elections should be held under the supervision of military personnel. “We have not been able to take any decision on the subject,” he said.

Mr Justice Abdus Sattar said that the Election Commission was not at all faced with any dilemma in view of the current political situation in the country. The Election Commission, he pointed out, had been doing its job to arrange holding of elections well within scheduled time. He said that he had no doubt about the people going to polls according to the schedule on October 5.
