RAWALPINDI: After remaining suspended for over two months, driving licence operations, including testing and training, will resume from June 1 but with the necessary standard operating procedures (SOPs) against novel coronavirus.

City Traffic Police spokesperson Kashif Naveed told Dawn that the driving licence issuance process, which had been suspended since March 18 to combat spread of coronavirus, will be started after lockdown restrictions were eased.

All driving licence operations were suspended across Punjab, including Rawalpindi, till April 3. However, the suspension was extended following emergence of Covid-19 cases.

The spokesman said SOPs, including social distancing, would be enforced.

The police also distributed free masks and gloves among officials and directed them to wash their hands and avoid shaking hands or gatherings in the Police Lines barracks.

Besides, hand sanitisers had also been made available outside police offices and a doctor deployed at the entrance of Police Lines to carry out thermal scanning.
