APROPOS the news report ‘Capital’s rural schools to get permanent heads’ (Dawn Metro North Feb 4). The report shows how callous we have grown as members of a community.

The report quotes the Ministry of Education Joint Secretary, who also holds the additional charge of Director General Federal Directorate of Education. While the acting DG commits himself to appointing permanent heads in the institutes located in rural areas of the capital, he himself is the FDE chief which is the right of some senior principal or senior-most director of FDE as per decision of the Supreme Court in the Dr Shehnaz A. Riaz vs. Federation of 2016 case.

The reason behind the shifting of 94 posts of senior teachers from urban areas as explained by FDE Director (Admin) and spokesperson Saqib Shahab is that the step would help bring schools of rural areas at a par with the model colleges-com-schools in terms of quality of education. While the logic is not disputable, let us see whether it is implemented.
