MARDAN: Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chairman Mehmood Khan Achakzai said here on Sunday that the country was on the verge of bankruptcy politically, financially and socially.

He was addressing a public meeting of his party here in Niher Janay area of Rustam city. Party leaders, including Senator Usman Kakar, provincial president Mukhtiyar Khan Yousafzai, central secretary Khursheed Kakaji, Gohar Khan and a large number of party activists, were in attendance.

The PkMAP chief alleged that the parliament and Election Commission of Pakistan were being controlled, while strict censorship was imposed on media through different ways and means.

He added that the incumbent government had also adopted illegal and unconstitutional ways and means to control judges in the country.

“The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf-led coalition government has miserably failed to deliver as prices of gas, electricity and food commodities have been increasing with each passing day,” he said.

PkMAP chief says no one to be allowed to usurp resources of Pakhtuns

He warned that the masses would soon be on roads against the unaffordable prices and wrong policies of the present government. He claimed that this anti-government agitation would make history.

He deplored that lawmakers spoke in parliament just for protecting their own interests instead of finding solution to public issues. He said that dollar had gained significantly against rupee owing to poor financial policies of the government, which had increased the burden of the country’s debts.

Mr Achakzai claimed that the rulers had always adopted anti-Pakhtun policies with the purpose to get control over their resources. He, however, made it clear that no one would be allowed to usurp the resources and rights of Pakhtuns.

He alleged that ‘selected’ leaders were in the parliament while those voted by people in the last general elections were outside and that’s why they were unable to run the government according to the people’s aspirations.

The PkMAP chairman demanded holding of fresh general elections in the country to take the country out of the current crisis. On this occasion, other leaders called for spreading the party’s message so as to mobilise Pakhtuns for getting their rights.
