KHULNA: Dr Mallick, Vice-Chancellor of Chittagong University, yesterday [Jan 23] called upon the scholars and the historians not to be guided by emotions or sentiments in the onerous task of re-writing the history of the nation.

In his presidential address at the inaugural session of the second annual East Pakistan History Conference at the Municipal Auditorium here yesterday, Dr Mallick observed that it would be most unfortunate if our historians and scholars become emotional and sentimental in doing it.

He maintained that re-interpretation of history should not mean suppression of facts. Emotion and sentiments must not overpower the sense of judgement of the historians and his vision should not be clouded by prejudice or hatred against any people, he added.

He believe that in writing history the scholars would remember that exactitude in the results of historical investigations was difficult to attain for new knowledge coming in the wake of further investigations was constantly changing our conceptions, which sometimes might necessitate the reversal of earlier and established conclusions.
