RAHIM YAR KHAN: The Khwaja Fareed University of Engineering and Information Technology (KFUEIT), Rahim Yar Khan, will soon be among the top ranked engineering and IT universities, says Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) Chairman Prof Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid.

According to a press release, he stated this during a visit to the university here on Friday.

Dr Khalid added the kind of growth in infrastructure, programmes, faculty and number of students the university had had in a short span of time was commendable and it was all set to become a world-class institution.

He inaugurated numbers of projects during the visit, including the Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialisation (ORIC). He was highly impressed with the ambitions of the ORIC that had been set up to establish linkages with industry and promote entrepreneurial culture. He visited grand fiesta, displaying the regional cultures of Pakistan.

Senior fellow at University of Liverpool, UK, Dr Janet Strivens, who is currently working with the European Hematology Association, was also present during the visit. She showed great interest in co-curricular activities and appreciated the activities of students.

She said with the help of infrastructure and co-curricular mixed with academics, the KFUEIT would be among the universities of south Punjab, contributing towards social and economic development of the region.

KFUEIT Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Suleman Tahir during his briefing to the PHEC chairman shared his vision to take the university to the next level of quality education and research. He said a culture based on skills and performance was being inculcated in university.

“In this regard, the collaboration with the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NVTTC) under Prime Minister’s Kamyab Jawaan initiative had been done. Through this collaboration, the youth will get six months free technical education in multiple courses which will create entrepreneurship opportunities and possibilities for job placements not only in Pakistan but in Middle East as well,” he said.

Inauguration

Punjab Finance Minister Makhdoom Hashim Jawan Bakht inaugurated the Sports Complex over 10 acres of land in Sardargarah along the National Highway, some 51km from here.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that with the cost of Rs60m, the project would be completed within six months time till June 2020.

The Sports Complex will have a cricket ground along with full boundary wall, football ground, volleyball, basketball and badminton courts, children’s play area, gym, residence for players, pavilion, jogging track and food court.

Jawan Bakht also inaugurated a bridge over the Dallas Canal near Basti Bhararan, Rukanpur.
