KARACHI: The North Karachi Association of Trade and Industry (NKATI) has asked the government to suspend gas supply to the CNG sector for two months to save export-oriented industries.

NKATI President Naseem Akhtar on Friday said the CNG sector is gaining prominence, but it is not an economically viable initiative. “Industries should not be ruined for the sake of only one sector, because closure of industries would lead to massive unemployment besides hitting exports badly,” he added.

He disclosed that due to non-availability of gas, 80pc production activities have been stalled in North Karachi Industrial Area resulting in cancellation of export orders besides rendering hundreds of people jobless.
