ISLAMABAD: Two Karachi-based artists showcased their work at an exhibition titled Memories Intertwined, which depicted memories, the duplicity of the individual and the collective hypocrisy of society.

The exhibition, held at Nomad Gallery, reflected fond memories, aspirations and the hypocrisy of individuals and society through three dimensional pieces unique in style, medium and ideas.

Nomad’s curator and director Nageen Hyat said the artists’ creativity through their dynamic sculptural art is a visual delight.

Syed Faraz Ali recalls his memories from childhood through paper boats, planes and birds when he was unable to fold. Hence, after working with the learning curve of origami for decades he creates those memorable forms in metal.

Origami is the art of folding objects out of paper to create both two-dimensional and three-dimensional subjects.

“The show is about dreaming of growing and touching the sky or crossing oceans build within us at a very small age,” Ms Hyat said, adding: “Faraz’ work is truly fun and enlightening. Nabeel’s sculptures in origami paper works are skillfully woven together to create exquisite workmanship and creativity.”

Mr Ali depicted his dreams through a variety of media boats, birds and planes in different colours - aluminium, anodised, automotive, stainless steel, with powder coating.

“I had been a dreamer that lacked the endowment of boat building and plane making,” Mr Ali said.

“When after three decades of learning the art of origami I decided to take it to next level, a level that shaped it into art pieces. These stainless steel origami fulfilled two purposes...my mastering the art of origami and later going sustainable with steel and saving the planet,” he said.

Nabeel Ahmed Shaikh’s work is diverse in nature: he loves to work on all materials especially on marble, wood and paper.

He has depicted the hypocrisy of society the wider picture on political, social and economic issues through his work in Taqleed, in paper with acrylic box, his Aks ke Baraks series and Ghaebana.

Mr Shaikh has captured the diverse feelings, the madness, the chaos and sense of belonging as well as of estrangement of the metropolis of Karachi through his compelling art, using diverse materials to offer a thoughtful interpretation of the varied facets of the city.

The show will continue till Jan 10, 2020.
