LAHORE: An event featuring Urdu poet Sufi Ghulam Mustafa Tabassum’s poetry attracted a large audience at the Alhamra Art Center, The Mall on Tuesday.

The evening was organised by the Sufi Tabassum Academy and Lahore Arts Council. The sole singer of the evening was Saira Peter, the only Sufi opera singer, who can sing in 14 different languages. To sing Sufi Ghulam Tabassum’s Persian poetry, she learnt Persian language and got the command on its pronunciation.

The evening was dedicated to Persian and Urdu ghazals written by Sufi Ghulam Mustafa Tabassum. It was attended by many people, including wife of the governor, the minister for information and culture, dignitaries from Iranian embassy and singer Suraiya Multanikar.

In another event, an art exhibition was organised by Kinnaird College opened at the Alhamra Art Gallery.

Kinnaird College Principal Dr Rukhsana David along with Lahore Arts Council Executive Director Athar Ali Khan inaugurated the exhibition.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms David said the participating artists showed immense talent. She held the Lahore Arts Council in high esteem, saying it had played a pivotal role for promotion of performing and visual arts.
