PESHAWAR: The Cantonment Board has restored two-way traffic on Saddar Road, withdrawing its decision of changing it into one-way two months ago. The decision has been taken to ensure smooth flow of traffic in the busy commercial area and facilitate people, especially schoolchildren, in reaching their destinations.

The cantonment board vice-chairman, Waris Khan Afridi, told mediapersons here that the earlier decision was reviewed in a meeting of the traders’ representatives with station commander Brig Shafiq and the board’s chief executive officer Rana Khawar.

He said that Saddar Road was changed into one-way about two months ago, but it had adversely affected the traffic system.

“I apologise to all residents of the cantonment, especially schoolchildren and women, who suffered during the past about two months,” Mr Afridi said.

Earlier, the local traders had also criticised the decision of turning the two-way Saddar Road into one-way, saying the government had played havoc with their business.

Peshawar Chamber of Small Traders and Industry president Mohammad Atif Haleem appreciated the cantonment board’s decision and hoped that it would help minimise miseries of the citizens.
