LAHORE: The University of Health Sciences (UHS), on Friday, issued the first list of candidates selected for admissions to MBBS and BDS programmes in public medical and dental colleges of Punjab for the 2019-20 session.

The last merit for MBBS remained 91.5 per cent and 93.5pc for BDS. Last year, this merit was 89.15 and 89, respectively.

The merit has been calculated as per the formula of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) with 50pc each of intermediate and admission test marks.

Only those candidates who secured a minimum of 70pc marks in Higher Secondary School Certificate or equivalent examination and passed Medical and Dental Colleges Admission Test with a minimum of 60pc marks as per PMDC formula were eligible for admission this year. A total of 14,217 candidates applied for MBBS and 11,041 for BDS.

The candidates applied for admission against 3,192 open merit (3,017 MBBS and 175 BDS), 66 under-developed district (54 MBBS and 12 BDS), 76 reserved seats for children of overseas Pakistanis/dual nationality holders (72 MBBS and four BDS), and 20 disabled candidates (19 MBBS and one BDS) seats in 17 public sector medical and three dental colleges.

The King Edward Medical University Lahore remained the top choice of candidates with its merit being 94.2pc.

The last merit for Allama Iqbal Medical College Lahore was 93.5pc, Services Institute of Medical Sciences Lahore 93pc, Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan Medical and Dental College Lahore 92.7pc, Nishtar Medical College Multan 92.3pc, Ameeruddin Medical College Lahore 92.25pc, Fatima Jinnah Medical University Lahore 92.16pc, Rawalpindi Medical College 92pc, Punjab Medical College Faisalabad 92pc, Quaid-i-Azam Medical College Bahawalpur 91.85pc, Gujranwala Medical College 91.8pc, Sahiwal Medical College 91.7pc, Sargodha Medical College 91.68pc, Khawaja Mohammad Safdar Medical College Sialkot 91.68pc, Nawaz Sharif Medical College Gujrat 91.6pc, Sheikh Zayed Medical College Rahim Yar Khan 91.6pc and DG Khan Medical College 91.54pc.

For BDS, the last merit of de’Montmorency College of Dentistry Lahore was 94pc, Nishtar Institute of Dentistry Multan 93.6pc and Dental Section Punjab Medical College Faisalabad 93.5pc.

For reciprocal seats, the merit of Khyber Medical College Peshawar is 95.47pc, Azad Jammu and Kashmir Medical College Muzaffarabad 94.86pc, Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Medical College Mirpur 94.47, Poonch Medical College Rawlakot 94.34pc and Bolan Medical College Quetta 94.29pc.

For 76 seats reserved for children of overseas Pakistani/dual nationality holders, the last merit for MBBS is 87.8pc, for BDS 93.15pc. For disabled candidates, MBBS merit is 79.7pc and BDS 90.25pc.

For admission against 66 seats reserved for the students of six under-developed districts, the last merit is Layyah (MBBS) 92.57pc, Layyah (BDS) 92.84pc, Lodhran (MBBS) 93.09pc, Lodhran (BDS) 93.79pc, Muzzafargarh (MBBS) 92.86pc, Muzzafargarh (BDS) 93.22pc, Bhakkar (MBBS) 92.2pc, Bhakkar (BDS) 92.79pc, Rajanpur (settled area) MBBS 91.97pc, Rajanpur (settled area) BDS 92.63pc, Rajanpur (tribal area) MBBS 83.7pc, Rajanpur (tribal area) BDS 87.79pc, DG Khan (settled area) MBBS 93.06pc, DG Khan (settled area) BDS 93.06pc, DG Khan (tribal area) MBBS 89.36pc and DG Khan (tribal area) BDS 91.7pc.

All the lists are available on UHS website also. The last date for submission of fee in respective colleges is Nov 15, while classes will commence on Nov 18.

Moreover, a meeting of the Provincial Admission Committee was held here at UHS on Friday with UHS Vice Chancellor Prof Javed Akram in the chair. The meeting was attended by Allama Iqbal Medical College Lahore Principal Prof Arif Tajammul and Private Association of Medial Institutions Punjab President Prof Javed Asghar.
