KARACHI: A double-cabin vehicle belonging to the Khidmat-i-Khalq Foundation, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan’s charity wing, and used by the party’s convenor and federal minister Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui was stolen from the party’s temporary headquarters in Bahadurabad on Tuesday, police said.

They said the car bearing registration number CU-3157 was taken away by unknown persons in the first half of the day while it was parked outside the office building. The CCTV footage of the incident, they said, was collected by investigators which suggested involvement of at least two persons in the theft.

“The car was registered in the name of Khidmat-i-Khalq Foundation and being used by the leaders for its operation as told by MQM leaders,” said DSP Mohammad Zubair, the area’s sub-divisional police officer.

“We believe that it was a random attempt by professional car lifters without knowing the details of the owners of the car. It was not a deliberate move by anyone to target the car of [the] party leaders. We have registered an FIR of the incident. Now we are collecting evidence and have also involved the anti-car lifting cell for their expertise to trace the suspects and the stolen car.”
