QUETTA: Deputy Speaker National Assembly Qasim Khan Suri and Deputy Chief of Mission at Chinese Embassy Lijian Zhao inaugurated solar tube wells here on Sunday.

Chinese engineers installed solar panels on five tube wells, said Mr Suri. He had requested the Chinese diplomat to install solar panels on tube wells because people in the province were facing difficulties due to water shortage, he said.

“China is committed to providing maximum possible assistance to Balochistan for its development projects,” said the Chinese diplomat on the occasion.

Earlier on Saturday, three solar tube wells were officially unveiled by the NA’s deputy speaker, one in Sara Curgai near Dara dam and other in Kasi graveyard, according to APP news agency.

“These tube wells would provide about 450 tankers [quantity] of water to the city daily for eight uninterrupted hours under the supervision of the Water and Sanitation Authority [Wasa],” he claimed, also claiming that the residents of Quetta could be saved from tanker mafia.
