LAHORE: Many areas in the city faced power disruption for hours on Wednesday after the National Transmission & Dispatch Company’s 220kV transmission line and grid tripped owing to a technical fault.

The situation caused tripping of seven 132kV grid stations and lines of the Lahore Electric Supply Company around 12 noon.

According to officials, the Lesco lines that tripped due to fault in 220kV Band Road grid and transmission line included Gulshan-i-Ravi, Shadman, Cantonment, Riwaz Garden, Bhati Gate and Fort Grid.

“This led to suspension of power being supplied through Lesco’s distribution system in many areas. However, the 220kV Band Road grid resumed operation after the engineers removed the fault,” said a Lesco official. He said the company made efforts to supply power to the affected areas through other sources.

According to a spokesman for the NTDC, the 220kV grid tripped due to a technical fault in its line’s insulators. “But it was rectified within the shortest possible time, enabling Lesco to resume the normal power distribution,” he added.
