JHANG: Flood level in the River Jhelum was low to medium on Saturday. Flooding inundated places near village Thatti Langer late on Thursday when villagers were asleep as no early warning system is in place to spread necessary information in riverine areas. The stranded villagers had yet to get any help from the district administration. No report of loss of life, property or cattle head was reported from any part of the flooded areas. Villagers, however, suffered huge losses as their standing crops on a large scale were swept away.

Approximately, 60 to 80 villages were affected along the stretch, prominent among them are Thatti Langer, Bullo, Kit Issa Shah, Doaba, Haidhan, Kot Shakir, Sabar. Klera and Peer Kit Sadhana. The displaced villagers have urged the district administration to provide them tents, clean drinking water, medicine and folder for their cattle.

People have shifted from the flood hit areas to the safer places along with their cattle heads and other valuable belongings. They criticised the government for showing indifference towards them. No relief camps were set up in any part of the district. People are living in the open or residing with their relatives.

The River Jhelum enters the district near village Thatti Langer on the right and Kotla Tatar on the left bank. It traverses the district for 85 kilometres before merging into the River Chenab at Trimmu Headworks downstream.
