ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister retired Brig Ijaz Ahmad Shah on Monday admitted in the National Assembly that the office of Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) was established on a greenbelt in violation of the by-laws of Capital Development Authority (CDA).

He stated this in a written reply to a question asked by MNA Tahira Aurangzeb.

“Will the Minister for Interior be pleased to state: (a) whether the Islamabad Traffic Police Office is established on the greenbelt between F8 and F9, Islamabad in violation of by-laws of the Capital Development Authority?”

The interior minister replied in the affirmative.

To another part of the question, the minister said the ITP headquarters were situated on the greenbelt between F-8 and F-9 but all facilities were available there through private-government partnership and sponsored.

He said the allotment of 4.2 acres by CDA at Faizabad, Murree Road, for the ITP was under process. A summary for the construction of the ITP complex has been moved for approval and as and when the complex is completed the ITP will shifted there.

A few other police installations, including Khanna and Koral police stations and the office of Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) are on greenbelts.

The two police stations have been set up on the greenbelts along Islamabad Expressway while the ACLC office is located on a greenbelt between I-11 and I-10.
