ISLAMABAD: A black bear of an endangered species has been recovered from private captivation in E-11.

The Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) on Monday recovered the bear from private captivation. According to sources, the bear belonged to a well-known property dealer.

IWMB handed the recovered animal to Islamabad zoo.

“The bear in question was brought to the zoo by IWMB, now they will decide the fate of this animal,” said director zoo and wildlife of the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad, Rana Tahir.

An IWMB official said the bear seized during a raid was brought from Swat to Islamabad and that the zoo has put its worth at Rs500,000.

Since, it has no legal mandate to impose fine on violators, IWMB handed the bear to the zoo.

According to IWMB Chairman Dr Anisur Rehman, the matter will be brought before a magistrate either by the board or the zoo to decide the bear’s fate.
