CHINIOT: Three policemen, including an assistant sub-inspector were arrested and suspended from service for torturing women during a police raid on a house at Chiniot city.

According to police sources, Haleema Bibi, wife of Nazir, her sister-in-law Anwari Bibi and four others were present in their house in Mohallah Rehmanabad when ASI Ghulam Mohammad Jappah, with two constables and a private person, Aashi Jappah, forced their entry on the pretext of arresting a suspect.

The intruders started beating up Haleema, her sister-in-law and other family members. As they dragged the women and tried to bundle them in a vehicle, a large number of area residents gathered there and rescued them. On facing resistance, the police party left the place.

After a video clip of the incident showing torture of the women was aired by electronic media, DPO Anwar Khatran took notice of it and ordered registration of a case at the city police station. Following registration of the case the suspects were arrested. The DPO said the suspects were also suspended from service and Chenab Nigar DSP had been asked to probe into the matter.
