LAHORE:An accountability court on Thursday granted two-day transit remand of Ramzan Sheikh, owner of Husnain Construction Company, to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The bureau arrested Sheikh in Lahore on charges of corruption in construction of a road from Dera Ismail Khan to Peshawar and a Saaf Pani scheme in the KP. It alleged that the company constructed the road in violation of the approved map and caused a huge loss to national exchequer. Sheikh is also chief executive officer of Royal Palm Golf & Country Club, Lahore.

A NAB prosecutor told judge [accountability court] Syed Najamul Hassan that the suspect was required to be produced before an accountability court of Peshawar in the road case. He asked the court to grant transit remand of the accused for his shifting to Peshawar.

The judge granted two-day transit remand of Ramzan to the NAB-KP and directed it to produce Sheikh before the trial court concerned for further proceedings.

Mr Sheikh along with others including former minister for railways retired Lt-Gen Javed Ashraf Qazi, railways’ former chairman retired Lt-Gen Saeeduz Zafar, railways former secretary general manager retired Maj Hamid Hassan Butt is also facing another NAB inquiry on the charge of causing over Rs2 billion loss to the national exchequer in lease deal of the railways’ precious land with the Royal Palm Club.
