KARACHI: Another worker injured in the cylinder blast that happened on Saturday evening in a factory in Korangi succumbed to wounds during treatment on Monday, according to Awami Colony police and hospital officials.

“The worker, Jameel, who sustained a head injury, died during treatment on early Monday morning at the trauma centre of Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi,” said additional police surgeon, Dr Qarar Ahmed Abbasi.

Six workers were injured in the blast that occurred inside Kamran Engineering Company located in Sector-27 of Korangi Industrial Area.

Five of them were severely burnt while the sixth, Jameel, sustained critical head injuries caused by hard object.

Among the five burnt workers, 18-year old Saud died of 100pc burn wounds during treatment on Sunday.

Out of four workers admitted at Burns Centre of the hospital, the condition of two workers namely Kasoo, 30, and Tariq, 55, was stated to be critical as they also sustained burn wounds between 95pc to 100pc.

The other wounded workers were identified as Zia, 20, and Anees, 25.

Awami Colony SHO Shahid Khan on Monday told Dawn that so far, no case has been registered against the factory owner. The factory manufactures electric panels where an LPG cylinder exploded.

The officer said that exact cause of explosion could not be ascertained immediately.
