ISLAMABAD: MNA Munaza Hassan was unanimously elected secretary of the Women Parliamentary Caucus at the general assembly of the caucus at Parliament House on Tuesday.

National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser said on the occasion that the Women Parliamentary Caucus in the National Assembly is a great achievement of women parliamentarians.

He said the caucus has provided a forum where women parliamentarians can work for the development, empowerment and emancipation of women above party politics. Its basic task, he said, was to evolve consensus on gender issues on a bipartisan basis.

Mr Qaiser said Pakistan has demonstrated a sincere commitment to international human rights treaties endorsing women’s rights and gender quality in its societies.

Patron of the caucus Dr Fehmida Mirza and former secretary Shaista Pervaiz Malik briefed the parliamentarians on the working of the caucus and its achievements.
