RAWALPINDI: The district administration on Tuesday asked the Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) to repair street lights and roads on the traditional route of Muharram processions.

A senior district administration official told Dawn special passes will be issued to officials, sanitary workers and other relevant employees of the civic bodies of Rawalpindi who are deployed on the route for the Muharram procession. The district administration has asked the civic bodies to provide a list of its workers along with their photos and ID cards.

He said the special security passes will be issued by the Special Branch for Muharram 7 and 10.

He said the district administration also chalked out a comprehensive plan for the mourning procession.

The official said three emergency camps will be established with staff from the relevant emergency services at Committee Chowk, Kotwali Raja Bazaar and Shah Nazar Pull. Ambulances and first aid will be provided in these camps. RMC has been directed to cover up open manholes on main roads and repair street lights.
