LAHORE: Pakhtuns from Shafiqabad locality on Saturday staged a demonstration in front of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Zaman Park residence demanding that the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) issue their computerised national identity cards (CNICs).

The protesters were carrying banners and posters. They are originally Afghans and have been living in Lahore for years. Nadra had blocked their identity cards.

The protesters said the previous PML-N government had cancelled their identity cards and they were facing problems, including enrolment of their children in schools. They demanded the prime minister intervene and solve their problems.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan directed the Nadra chairman to meet and resolve the protesters’ issues. The Nadra director general met with the protesters, while the authority chairman would be holding a meeting with them on Sunday (today).

The Nadra officials, however, said that they would issue the CNICs only after completing legal formalities.
