THIS is apropos your editorial ‘Tortured students’ (Aug 9). Children who are lucky enough to acquire education in a country where approximately 45pc children are out of schools are tortured mentally and physically, both by their teachers and parents.

According to recent Unesco report, Pakistan has the second most out-of-school children in the world. Parents fail to find the real talent of their children and all they look are grades. Is that all what a young-mind strives for?

Childhood is one of the most crucial phases of life. It is a phase of learning and discovering new things and being nurtured in the best way possible – disciplined and obedient. Thus, parents instead of ruining their children’s childhood should make their childhood memorable.

Teachers should realise that their torture can build up hatred and resentment into the hearts of their students. Teachers should take this on a serious note and avoid physical torture.

Moreover, teachers often degrade their students unaware of the fact that this can lead to mental stress for children.

If teachers and parents continue torturing children both physically and mentally, we will have a next generation lacking in traits required for useful members of society.
