KARACHI: Wrestler Inam Butt, one of Pakistan’s major medal hopes for the upcoming Asian Games, has withdrawn from the Asian Games starting in Indonesia next month citing knee problems.

The wrestler, who bagged Pakistan’s only gold medal in the Commonwealth Games on Gold Coast, Australia, told this correspondent that his knee-injury has further aggravated during training.

“I suffered a knee injury during the Commonwealth Games,” said Inam. “My knee twisted again during the training camp set up for the Asian Games and the doctors have advised me at least 25-day rest. Therefore, I have been forced to withdraw from the Indonesia-bound contingent,” he added.

The Asian Games are scheduled to be held from Aug 18 to Sept 2 in the Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Palembang.
