Independent candidate Jibran Nasir, who is contesting polls from Karachi's NA-247 constituency, has alleged that volunteers taking part in his election campaign were assaulted twice in two different parts of the Bizerta Lines area.
"It was primarily Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan which assaulted our workers. Some local members of the Jamaat-i-Islami and the All Pakistan Muslim League joined in. I was not present at the time. I then led my team again in the area," he told Dawn.com.
Nasir also claimed that inciteful sermons made during Friday prayers at various mosques had put "the lives of our workers and voters at large... at risk".
"We have reported to authorities, but no cases [are] being registered. Even Friday sermons which were reported, no action was taken against the clerics," he said, adding that all incidents are being reported to authorities.
