In Mohmand, it appears that tribal customs and cultural attitudes dictate if and how women will vote.

But both male and female voters in the district say they are open to women voting in upcoming polls ─ as long as there are separate polling stations for women voters, and they are provided adequate security by the government.

Breakdown of registered voters:

  • Male: 158,873

  • Female: 96,679

This time around, the Election Commission has made it mandatory for political parties to ensure 10pc of women vote to prevent the election being declared invalid.
