Husain Lawai

Published July 15, 2018

IT is saddening that banking legend Husain Lawai was brought to a judicial magistrate’s court in handcuffs while encounter-specialist Rao Anwar, who is accused of having the blood of more than 400 people on his hands, was brought to an ATC court without handcuffs.

Mr Lawai is a 73-year-old banker, who was among the first MBAs of this country. He has been the founder president of a number of banks. It is against all norms of justice that he is being treated this way without any investigation while the main alleged culprit has reportedly fled the country.

Moreover there should have been humanitarian considerations on account of his age and that he is a patient of high blood pressure and diabetes. What would the people and young generation of bankers think when a leading stalwart and iconic figure like him is being meted such derogatory treatment?

Mr Lawai is no ordinary person. He has dedicated 45 years of his life to institution-building in Pakistan in the banking and financial sector.
