KARACHI: The Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) of police on Thursday claimed to have arrested in Gulshan-i-Iqbal three members of a car thieves’ gang.

“The gang has been active for last six years and stolen about 100 vehicles from Defence, Clifton and Sharea Faisal,” said the ACLC SSP.

The gang used to prepare fake documents of the stolen vehicles and then sell them in Sanghar, Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas as bank-defaulted vehicles.

“The ACLC conducted raids in the three cities and have so far recovered 10 vehicles which are being handed over to their owners,” added the officer.

The held suspects were identified as Husain Bux, Khamiso and Parma Nand.

Another member of the gang, Liaquat Ali, had been arrested on June 4 and sent to prison.

Dumper crushes woman

A dumper truck killed a woman on Sharea Faisal late on Wednesday night.

According to police, Zara, 35, was travelling on a motorbike with her husband Shahid and their child when she fell off the bike as her burqa was stuck in the bike’s chain.

A dumper coming from behind ran over her. She sustained critical injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead. Her husband and the child remained safe.

The errant driver managed to escape from the crime scene, leaving behind the truck which was set on fire by an angry mob.
