It's the 21st century but some within the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf are still living in the dark ages. Why else would they have a problem with women contesting the upcoming elections?

News is that the office-bearers of PTI's Mansehra district are so upset at Imran Khan's decision to field Maria Fatima and Zahida Sabeel from two of the provincial constituencies that they are threatening their leader with a sit-in.

"First our traditions don’t allow the election nomination of women and second the two candidates are not electable and therefore, their tickets should be withdrawn. If the party doesn’t meet our demand, we’ll stage a sit-in outside the Banigala mansion." — PTI district vice-president Razaullah Khan.

To make sure that his ilk's male chauvinism is genuine and that it cannot later be filed under the slip-of-the-tongue binder, Monsieur Razaullah said some more of the same.

“Women candidates are unacceptable to workers and if their tickets aren’t withdrawn and aren’t given to winning aspirants, then the party will certainly lose those seats.”

You know what? A quick Google search showed me there were plenty of female leaders even in 1818. Perhaps, Mr Razaullah's ideological and political values haven't caught up with 19th century even.
