LAHORE: The Muhittda Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) and Jamaat-e-Islami want elections on schedule (July 25) because any kind of delay would be detrimental to national integrity, says Secretary General of the alliance and the JI leader Liaqat Baloch.

Talking to the media outside the Election Commission offices on Thursday, he said postponement of the elections would be detrimental to national unity and integrity and could plunge the country into a serious political crisis and administrative chaos.

He said the resolution of any provincial assembly or the letter of any chief minister in this regard must be ignored and the Election Commission should ensure holding of elections on schedule.

The MMA secretary general further said there was confusion regarding the delimitation of constituencies and several cases were pending in the courts. He said this issue must be resolved well in time.

Baloch demanded the enforcement of articles 62 and 63 of the constitution in their true spirit to ensure that those elected to the assemblies were Sadiq and Ameen as required by the constitution.
