LAHORE: The government plans to carry out test run of the Lahore Orange Line Metro Train on two sections of the project situated in Package-1 and 2.

The sections, where the train is expected to run on a trial basis in near future, include Dera Gujjran to Lakshmi Chowk stations (Package-1) and Ali Town to Scheme Mor (Package-2), according to an official source.

“The top-level officials engaged in supervising the ongoing execution of the project are of the view that the trial run must be carried out in two portions - Dera Gujjran to Lakshmi and Ali Town to Scheme Mor. Therefore, the officials engaged in civil, mechanical, electrical works have been directed to accelerate work along these sections,” a senior official told Dawn on Wednesday.

“Since 70pc of track-laying work has been completed, we are finalising various arrangements to carry out the trial run,” Orange Line steering committee chief Khwaja Ahmad Hassan said while visiting the Lakshmi Chowk station on Wednesday.

Earlier, presiding over a meeting of the committee, Mr Hassan said the project had entered into final round of its completion since 88pc of work has been completed.

ACTION: A Lahore Development Authority (LDA) team representing directorate of estate management demolished infrastructure, boundary, gates and offices of six illegally developed housing schemes near Shahdara.

According to a spokesman, the schemes where the LDA team demolished structures included Al-Badar, City Estate, Al-Wahab, Noor Park, Ahmad Developers and Satellite Town.
