RAWALPINDI: A man was shot during an attempt to hijack an oil tanker in Jatli and a trader was shot and injured during a robbery attempt in Sadiqabad on Sunday, the police said.

Moammar Khan, an oil tanker conductor was shot and injured during an attempt to hijack the oil tanker by three unidentified persons on Sunday in the limits of the Jatli police station.

Mohammad Shaoib, a son of the victim, complained to the police that his father was returning from Rawalpindi after off-loading the oil tanker after midnight when the driver noticed that three men were chasing them on a motorcycle.

When they were passing through a deserted stretch, the riders sped up to the driver’s side and threatened him to stop. When the driver refused, one of the men fired at the driver. However, the bullet hit Moammar Khan, who was sitting next to the driver. The driver did not stop and managed to escape. Moammar was moved to the hospital, where he is said to be in critical condition.

In an unrelated incident, Raja Irfan told the police three men on a motorbike walked into his cement store in Sadiqabad, pulled out weapons and threatened to kill him if he did not hand over the cash in the store.

Raja Irfan was shot and injured when he offered resistance. The gunmen escaped though it is not known if they took any cash. The victim was taken to the hospital and is said to be in critical condition.
