LAHORE: The 87th death anniversary of revolutionary Bhagat Singh was observed here on Friday.

The Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation and Bhagat Singh Foundation Pakistan organised separate gatherings at Shadman Chowk where Singh along with his comrades -- Rajguru and Sukhdev -- were hanged in 1931.

Members of these organisations paid tribute to the freedom fighters and held a candlelit vigil for them. Some relatives of Bhagat Singh also addressed the gatherings telephonically.

Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation Chairman Imtiaz Rashid Qureshi, Advocate Abdur Rashid Qureshi, Kaleem Ahmad Khurshid, Raja Zulqarnain, Iqbal Mughal Hasan, Bhagat Lal Khokar and others passed a resolution demanding the British Queen tender an apology for hanging the three revolutionaries and compensate their families, name a road after them and include a chapter in school syllabus about their bravery.

Bhagat Singh Foundation Pakistan Founder President Abdullah Malik said peoples of the subcontinent would never forget the courage and sacrifice of Bhagat Singh and his companions.

“Bhagat Singh raised his voice against imperialism. He will be remembered as a great freedom fighter.”

He demanded the governments of India and Pakistan declare Singh and his comrades national heroes.
