LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Friday told the Lahore High Court that former police inspector Abid Hussain alias Abid Boxer had not been extradited to Pakistan.

This was stated by FIA Director Interpol Tahir Nawaz during hearing of a petition moved by the father in-law of the former inspector (also known as ‘encounter’ specialist), for the protection of his son-in-law. Boxer was arrested in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by police in a fraud case.

Petitioner Jaffar Rafi had contended through his counsel that there was a strong apprehension that Pakistan police would kill Boxer in a fake encounter after bringing him back to the country with the help of Interpol.

He said many fabricated cases had been registered against his son in-law only on the basis of political victimisation. He asked the court to summon record of all the cases and order the FIA and the police to ensure protection of Boxer. He pleaded that right to fair trial of Boxer should be protected as guaranteed under Article 10-A of the Constitution.

Justice Muhammad Anwarul Haq adjourned further hearing till March 28. Previously, the police also denied before the court having custody of Abid Boxer when the petitioner alleged that his son-in-law had been brought back to the country.

Abid Boxer had fled the country in 2008 after a number of cases were registered against him on murder charges.
