Special court orders suspension of Musharraf's identity card, passport

A special court hearing a high treason case against retired Gen Pervez Musharraf on Friday ordered the interior ministry to take steps for the suspension of the former president's identity card and passport, and also arrange for his arrest with the help of Interpol.

The court tasked the federal government with seizing Musharraf's assets and ordered it to extradite him from United Arab Emirates (UAE). It also expressed disappointment over government’s inaction so far.

While talking to DawnNewsTV, Dr Mohammad Amjad, the secretary general of All Pakistan Muslim League, said that Musharraf has decided “to travel to Pakistan by the end of April and face trial”.

Earlier on Tuesday, Musharraf's lawyer Akhtar Shah had requested the interior ministry for the provision of "foolproof security" on Musharraf’s return.

The ministry officials confirmed that they received the request on March 13 and are currently deliberating the matter.

The court ordered that a report regarding seizure of Musharraf’s assets be submitted in the next hearing on March 21.

Why Mushraff attorney is asking for extra security ? What do you mean by fullproof security ? Mushraff is just like General citizen of our country and not honoring the courts law and order why does he feel guilty ? All politicians and high rank Defense officers and other govt diginatries are living Permenante in foreign countries and they do hold many big land properties and wealth as well abroad and living a Kong’s life How they can afford ? They must look after the country after their retirement and can do many other volunteer services we the people of Pakistan do highly respect our defense personnel and many more govt officers but they all have taken the disadvantage of the previledge offered by the goby of Pakistan it’s sad.

The charges of treason against General Musharraf are utter non-sense. What he did was more like a tradition there. Several generals dismissed the civilian Govt. And ruled. However, this old tradition, I hope is never repeated. You.cannot undo what has happened. General Musharraf will do well to retire from politics and devote his time to reading and may write a book after few years.He should avoid making any public statements about political problems in Pakistan.

Whatever Musharraf did, it was for the sake of Pakistan. Right or wrong, we can argue about it, but he remained honest and didn't loot the country like Nawaz or Zardari. The Court want to revoke his documents, do the same for NS, Zardari, and their families and cronies. Confiscate their assets too. Be fair!

I liked Musharraf but also amaze how stupid he is. Raheel Sharif saved his neck once. He should be thankful to him and should have stayed out of public eyes. Now all attention will be shifted from Nawaz Sharif to Pervez Musharraf.

Enough of this foolish drama! The Sharifs have been indicted by the courts in Pakistan. Nowhere else will someone under indictment can expect to flee the jurisdiction of the court. Their passports should be seized, if not canceled altogether. ECL is the least of the problems. Court can do a lot more to ensure no flight risk of suspects. If the Interior Minister does not comply, arrest him too and bar him from leaving the country, until he serves the sentence handed down for Contempt of Court.

mushraff is paying for the blunders he made...as a general he should have strategies sorted out...People should either be caressed or crushed. If you do them minor damage they will get their revenge; but if you cripple them there is nothing they can do. If you need to injure someone, do it in such a way that you do not have to fear their vengeance..

Our tragedy is that corrupts and murderers are free in this country enjoying life with palaces and apartments everywhere in the world with industries and bank balances stacked in foreign banks from the looted money and honest and proud Pakistani's passport and NIC is being cancelled. Not a single case of corruption reported against Mr Musharraf and his family.

If he is gone he needs to stay out of Pakistan politics. Leaving was his decision. He should become a citizen of Brazil, not stay in the Emirates where he thinks he can swoop back down into Islamabad. He and Nawaz Sharif are of one mind. They believe they are loved by all the people. Musharraf is out of touch with reality.

Having Passport of the country of Citizenship is not only most fundamental right under international laws but duly protected under United Nation Human Right Charter to which Pakistan is a signatory as well as rest of member states. Irespective individuals opinion about Mr Pervaiz Mushraff or about any one else Pakistan as a member to global comity is acountable if it violates the norms international law. The standards for accepting and executing Red Warrent are quite stringent. Inter Pol is a charter body under United Nation and will only issue Red Warrent on merit of the cases and only if it is convinced that request is not politically motivated and void of acceptable evedence warrenting issueing of Red Warrent.

No one should be above law. However, the fact is not one corrupt person in totalitarian authority has ever sincerely surrendered to authorities for accountability. Isolated persecution for making an example of any one or few individuals will not set the pace for Nation to change the course of political and judicial system. People of Pakistan must work in unison for improving the civil society and normal lifestyle in Pakistan. Pakistani’s should be realistic and take measured steps to eradicate corruption from grassroots levels and try in Court’s only those people against whom there are credible evidence of corrupt practices. Long live Pakistan. Pakistan Paindabad-Pakistan-Zindabad.

First put the names of the Sharif family on the ECL and after taking the corruption case against them to its logical conclusion than think of ceasing and cancelling something of ex-president Musahraf. Otherwise any move in haste and to save your face and to divert public attention from the main issue, that is free and fair accountability, would back fired.
