UNITED NATIONS: Thirty-eight African members of the United Nations have decided to ask for an urgent meeting of the Security Council to discuss the Rhodesian crisis.

Formal request to this effect is expected to be submitted later today [March 12].

The Security Council will be asked to consider the entire Rhodesian situation in the light of the hanging of two more Africans in Salisbury.

The Council is expected to meet within the next two or three days. Meanwhile, leaders of various countries continue to condemn the hangings of African Nationalists by the illegal Smith “regime”.

Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia has called upon Britain and the United Nations to save the Africans in Rhodesia from further execution. The Emperor accused Mr Smith of conducting a genocide campaign designed to eliminate freedom fighters in Rhodesia.

President Kaunda of Zambia has made an appeal to the investors who have interests in Rhodesia to withdraw their investments to bring down the illegal Smith “regime”.

In London, the Commonwealth Sanctions Committee is likely to consider the Rhodesian situation at its meeting later this week. — Agencies
