RAWALPINDI: A two day exhibition featuring the work of art students at the Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) opened on Saturday.

MPA Tehseen Fawad, Barrister Danial Chaudhry and RAC Director Waqar Ahmed inaugurated the exhibition, which was attended by a number of students and local residents.

The students displayed work that included handmade jewellery, floral arrangements and clothing. The featured students were from over 20 training courses, including fashion design, textile design, stained glass, interior decoration, painting, flower-making, glass painting, cutting and sewing and pottery decoration. Of the 26 stalls, those featuring gemstone and fabric jewellery appeared to attract the most visitors.

Speaking at the inauguration, Ms Fawad said the RAC had trained students in a practical way, so that they are able to contribute to the in-home industry and can earn their livelihoods honestly. Mr Chaudhry said the RAC’s role in the development of art and culture could not be falsified, adding that the students had command over their work.

Former resident director Naheed Manzoor said the council has always emphasised practical work, and given students a moral as well as a formal education. Mr Ahmed said professional education was a source of reducing unemployment, and that the youth would able to get respectable jobs. The exhibition will conclude today (Sunday).
